City of San Gabriel to preview new logos and signage

San Gabriel city hall is looking for residents and visitors alike to comment on a new city logo and street signage system. If you get a chance, visit the following locations today…

10 freeway widening begins in Baldwin Park

Caltrans is expanding a 2.2 mile length of the 10 freeway between the 605 and Puente Ave in Baldwin Park. It will include a new carpool lane on either side. The construction officially began on October 5th and will be not be completed for almost 3 years – due on October 2012. Full article at SGV Tribune…

Light rail to South El Monte being pondered

The MTA’s board of director is considering spending $10 million to research the feasibility of two rail lines between East Los Angeles and South El Monte/Whittier areas. One possible new line would run parallel to the 60 freeway. Routes through Whittier and Beverly Blvd. were shot down with too many hurdles to overcome. According to sources, the politicians of El Monte, Industry, Rosemead, Montebello, Monterey Park, and South El Monte are supportive of the light rail along the 60 freeway route. Other routes being considered include one along Beverly Blvd. Once the decision is made though, it will require a scramble for funds in 2022 and probably will get completed around 2033. So keep on driving your cars for now…

Expect extra traffic on 10 freeway

According to the LA Times, beginning in May, Caltrans will be doing major renovations on 10 freeway off ramps. Additionally with some research on Caltrans’ site bridges are part of the work. The days affected are Friday, Sunday and Tuesday through Thursday.

Governor may end 710 freeway debacle

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger may sign into a new law that would bar Caltrans from linking up the 710 to Pasadena via an above ground freeway. Thus the only other choice would be a massive tunnel project. Currently the only north south freeway going into Pasadena is the nation’s oldest freeway the 110 is severely antiquated.
